This smoothie is a great alternative to a sweet snack in between meals. It's tasty and vibrant and you really feel like you're treating yourself.
Not only that but it packs a powerful protein punch with the yoghurt, keeping you fuller for longer and giving you energy for longer.
Cherries are a great source of vitamin C, calcium, iron, magnesium, and potassium and folate as well as being low in fat and calories. Bananas, too, are full of essential minerals like potassium, magnesium and copper so this smoothie is a really healthy way to top up mineral levels which have been depleted from heavy intake of alcohol.
And an extra bonus to any smoothie with banana in it is that it is high in fibre. Bananas gain sweetness and lose fibre as they ripen so the more unripe the banana, the more fibrous it is.
You can use frozen cherries for ease to make this vibrant and tasty smoothie.
This recipe serves 2-4 people depending how large you want your portions.
Ingredients
300g frozen or fresh pitted cherries
150g full fat natural yoghurt
1 banana, sliced
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
50-200ml water or almond/coconut milk (coconut milk adds extra sweetness)
Method
Place all ingredients, including the water or milk, into a blender and blitz until smooth. Peeling, slicing and freezing the banana in advance gives this smoothie an extra thick and creamy texture.
